MANAGER REACTION:

Following Bacup Boroughs progression into the quarter final of the League Cup I spoke to Manager Brent Peters who had this to say

“  I am delighted for the boys that they have progressed into the quarter final of this cup competition, however I would not be doing my job if I do not give an honest assessment when asked, the fact you are asking me, I will tell you truthfully that we  got ourselves out of jail, Peters added “ I have on several occasions stated we have an excellent young talented squad, however has my Coach David Felgate said to the boys just before they entered the pitch, he quoted “ Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard  “ to be honest that basically summed up our afternoon, we had the talent but in a lot of instances our talent did not work has hard has that of Barnton our visitors, Peters added” credit where credit is due our opponents

May not have possessed the talent we have, however they worked extremely hard in pressing us all over the pitch which caused us some problems, Peters added “ given the opportunities that came their way there is no doubt they will have been wondering how on earth they lost this tie including penalties from which they had at one stage a 3-1 advantage, Peters went on “ I must give surmounting credit to our Goal Keeper Harry Turner who once again when we needed him, the boy was focussed enough to massively play his part, at 2-2 in normal time on more than one occasion he produced vital one v one saves and in the Penalty shoot out at a time when they just had to score to go through, he pulled off a good save from an equally well struck spot kick, Our Captain Adrian Bellamy put in a top leaders performance, scoring our equaliser and converting his spot kick, I also must credit Anthony Hall who played throughout in absolute pain with Toothache but this did not stop the boy producing a piece of individual brilliance and an excellent finish to get us on level terms after Barnton had opened the scoring disappointingly having gone through our midfield unopposed and being left to run at the heart of our defence, certainly not acceptable, equally it was Anthony Hall that put in a quality ball for Adrian Bellamy to finish to take the tie to penalties, I would also like to give all the boys that put themselves forward to take a spot kick credit, Michael Gervin, Darcy O’Connor, Adrian Bellamy all had pressure kicks and did well with positive finishes, given we had clawed our way back from the jaws of defeat the real pressure penalty was left to Laquan Esdaille who just could not afford to miss, this was the kick that would see us through, Laquan finished with an excellent strike and real composure, for that he also comes out with tremendous credit, along also with his contribution in the ninety minutes.

Peters finished by saying “ over the past few seasons We have lost some good people that have passed, people that were close to Bacup Borough, today they must have been watching down on us with kindness, has we certainly rode our luck  on more than one occasion “

MATCH REPORT: Bacup vs Barnton

PENALTY SHOOT OUT TO QUARTER FINAL FOR BORO

Bacup Borough 2- Barnton-2

( Bacup win 4-3 penalties)

Bacup Borough progressed to the quarter final of the North West Counties League First Division Cup but not without several scares along the way in what was an evenly balanced game with two teams going head to head.

Bacup got off to their worst start they would have wanted conceding an early seventh minute goal, it started when their player was gifted the opportunity to run through Bacup Borough’s midfield to the heart of their defence before finishing, it was a poor goal to say the least, but their lead was short lived when Bacup Borough’s Anthony Hall did produce a

really good piece of individual skill with a class finish, Hall collected the ball on Bacup Borough’s left in the Barnton half, with several players in front of him Hall danced his way through progressed into the penalty area before placing his shot past the Barnton keeper.

This was the catalyst for Bacup to kick on but sadly this did not happen, an early warning came when the Bacup rear guard failed to deal with one long straight ball which almost let Barnton in for a goal to retake the lead, whilst at the opposite side of the ground  Anthony Hall found himself in a great position yet again and with a chance to have doubled his sides lead only to see the advancing Barnton keeper throwing his body in and with this blocking the effort.

Both sides battled it out until the half time break where the scores remained 1-1.

The second half got underway, it was not long before both sides were getting rather frustrated with the official keep stop starting the game, rather than letting the game flow, the Bacup Manager Brent Peters was spoken to when following a Bacup Borough break, the Referee heard a remark made by one of the opposition, he immediately stopped play to deal with the culprit but much to the frustration of the Bacup

Borough Manager who felt play should have carried on,  then coming back to deal with the player in question, by this action he did rob Bacup of any advantage.

It was Barnton that got their noses in front once again, this time following a Bacup Borough Free Kick deep into the heart of the Barnton half from which Barnton went route one to clear any potential Bacup Borough danger, with the ball dropping Bacup Borough’s Jimmy Constantine attempted to bring the ball down, very quickly he was closed down, dispossessed leaving the advancing Barnton players to attack the Bacup goal before finishing.

This paved the way for Manager Brent Peters to introduce two more strikers in Louis Holding and Alessandro Ruocco  as well has pushing his Captain Adrian Bellamy further forward in an attempt to salvage something from the game, Bacup Borough won a free kick at the edge of the Barnton penalty area, this was all about the delivery, With Bacup now with plenty of bodies in the box, Anthony Hall put in an excellent ball, just perfect for the Bacup Borough Captain Adrian Bellamy to connect with his head and guide the ball past the helpless Barnton keeper to put his side on level terms and send the tie straight to penalties.

Full Time 2-2

Penalties.

Barnton won the toss to take the first penalty, up stepped their first taker to convert, Bacup Borough’s Michael Gervin levelled,  Barnton converted their second, this paved the way for Anthony Hall to whom has a 100% record from the spot but despite this, the Barnton keeper had obviously done his home work  has he guessed right to save the kick, Barnton stepped up again and converted, Rees Welsh stepped up for Bacup and his kick cleared the ground leaving the scores 3-1 to Barnton,  up stepped another Barnton player and with his kick, he did identical to Rees with his ball over, Bacup’s Darcy O’Connor stepped up to convert, Barnton need to convert this next spot kick in order to go through, but Bacup’s Goal keeper Harry Turner produced an excellent save to keep his side in the contest,     Next up was Barnton who’s player struck the post, this put all the pressure on Laquan Esdaille  to step up to win it for Bacup Borough, this he did leaving Bacup snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
