Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters Commented “   I have to admit having found out about Athrton’s issues, which forced them into basically a complete new side did concern me, these situations usually do not work out how we would like, having escaped some earlier scares opportunities we did, but should not have presented them with, which they most certainly should have scored, we went onto a comfortable win, I was pleased to see Ben Rhodes opening his senior team goal scoring account, Kyle Brooks put in an excellent all around performance in midfield, so for Kyle to score was the icing on the cake for the boy, Peters added “ I have to give the young Atherton side a lot of credit, they worked really hard throughout, in the opening exchanges they most certainly should have been ahead, we rode our luck at this stage, over the ninety minutes the young LR players deserve a lot of credit after their week that was, Peters finished by saying “ has for our boys, they could not do a lot more than ensuring they came out with the points against a team that was always going to be a potential banana skin, this we did, we scored another four goals, conceded none and got what we set out for three points, so job done.”

BACUP SURVIVE THEIR SLIPPERY TEST.

Following events of the past couple of weeks with the Atherton Club when the club suffered a League banning order over financial irregularities, this followed with their Manager getting the sack and several players leaving in support of their Manager, this left Bacup Borough in a no win situation regarding what ever team Atherton Turned out, this could have been the typical example of work rate will beat talent when talent don’t work, within the first fifteen minutes this busy young Atherton side did capitalise on wrong decisions  from experienced defenders Laquan Esdaille and Adrian Bellamy and when Darcy O’Connor took a bad touch yet another excellent opportunity dropped Atherton’s way before the home side had got going, more composed finishing in all situations for Atherton,Bacup would have been in trouble chasing a game they should never have been chasing,.

Once Bacup’s Darcy O’Conner got himself nestled between two defenders at the far post when the ball was delivered from the right, not only did this goal shoot the home side in front but any edgy moments that started in Bacup Borough’s game, this goal settled everything, this was quickly followed by a quality ball in from Bacup Borough’s Josh Walne that was complimented by the head of Adrian Bellamy giving the home side a two goal cushion at the break

Following the half time break Manager Brent Peters made his first substitution introducing Benjamin Rhodes replacing Lowis Holding, this was followed by striker Bobby Carter replacing Matthew Dell, it was the combination of Carter and Rhodes that got produced Bacup’s third goal, in a situation that Carter could have taken on their last man before going for goal but unselfishly Carter played the ball one side of  the LR defender into the path of Benjamin Rhodes, the run from Carter taking the defender away opened it up more for Rhodes to go on with a composed finish.

Bacup Borough scored their fourth with an Adrian Bellamy assist into Kyle Brooks to finish, Brooks scoring was a fitting reward for a fitting complete all around performance, Atherton LR can also take pride by the fact they gave the home side some nervy moments, and even forced a second half top drawer save from the Bacup keeper Henry Turner
