Managers Reaction: We Showed Character and Determination

Following The Stockport Town Game I Spoke To The Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters To Whom Had This To Say.

“ I am really pleased for the boys getting the win their overhaul performance deserved, in previous games performance levels have been equally has good but we have not then got the breaks, even in this game and the manner we started this game we worked three excellent opportunities to have scored but failed, so when from their first attack they scored you can imagine what was going through our heads, Peters added “ whilst I do not wish to take anything away from their full backs finish which to be fair to him he slotted the ball in well, however what this goal proved to our boys is that it only takes one player not to take on his responsibilities within team shape out of possession and the consequences being we concede, Peters added “ the Stockport break was coming centre to right of the pitch, with our defenders tucked around in what I consider to be a good shape in comparison to where the ball was, the fact that our left sided wide player failed to drop into the space did allow their right back into finish, Peters added “ hopefully now we have been punished from this situation the lads will going forward realise that out of possession there is a responsibility from all players, to this end it will not happen again”

Peters went on “ Despite this set back the boys showed really good character, believing something would fall our way, When Alex Chu headed Anthony Hall through on goal and was clipped, for once we had an official that did us justice and not bottling the decision of awarding us a penalty, Peters went on “ The Responsibility was given to Captain Adrian Bellamy, Peters added “ in the past Adrian has been extremely reliable from the penalty spot, however on this occasion it was not to be, I would like to say it was a good save from their keeper but in reality it was a poorly struck spot kick, the fact that we went a goal down and then to miss an opportunity from the spot, given what these boys have been through in previous games it really did need them to show massive character in the second half, At the break I slightly changed the midfields responsibility from what we had worked on in training, this was mainly due to positions their Alec Mudimu was taking up, in the first half he got onto the ball dictating play too much for my liking, once this was addressed at the break we got on top in the midfield area, Peters then went onto say how important it was to pay attention when being told where to be on set pieces Peters added “ I had noticed from previous corners James Constantine was not where he should have been, I shouted and got a reaction from James, the fact he then positioned himself where he should have been in the first place did get him on the score sheet and us an equaliser, initially it was Adrian who’s effort was blocked with James Constantine in the right place to force the ball into the net, Peters finished by saying “ When Adrian Scored from our free kick given what we had been through in previous games, the delight and togetherness of all the players was there to see, this even more so come the final whistle, having for a good fifteen minutes defended our lead in order to secure three vital points, in addition we actually won this game the hard way having overcome the earlier set backs, Peters added “ that was really pleasing and I was over the moon for the boys for showing such Character and determination “
