Match Report: Bacup Borough 2-1 Litherland REMYCA

By Joel Downings

Bacup picked up yet another league victory, taking them into the NWCFL Division One play-off positions, with a narrow victory over Litherland REMYCA on Saturday. Tom Black’s fortunate winner enough to give the home side a 2-1 victory.

Early on Kelvin Trippier won the ball back high up the pitch and found Darcy O’Connor who managed to get a shot off and force a corner after 7 minutes.

O’Connor got another chance two minutes later when Davison Banda sent in Ben Boyne who did well to pull it back to an unmarked O’Connor, the midfielder’s shot was well saved in the end.

Bacup looked well in their stride on the 15 minute mark playing some good football and times, however the opponents also found theirs and the game looked a very even contest. Masirika uncertain at the back conceding a corner after taking too long to clear the danger, however nothing came of the set piece. Trippier also cutting out a dangerous looking Litherland move moments later.

If Bacup were going to win the game they were really going to have to start to play. They did that on the 20 minute mark, Banda switching play well to find skipper Shane Birtles in space on the right. The ball found it’s way to Matty Bryan who did well to score over the head of the Litherland keeper.

The away side got back on level terms with 5 minutes of the first half left to play. Alex Ryan with the goal to level things up. A goal just before the break was the last thing Bacup needed.

Peters made changes to his team and his formation when the second period resumed in order to combat the risk of another goal. One of these changes was to replace scorer Bryan with recent signing Tom Black.

Clear cut chances were few and far between in the second half, both teams having a fair few efforts at goal but none good enough to beat the goal keepers.

Black managed to grab the winner with 15 minutes left to play. Tripper with the pass allowing the midfielder to run forward and get a shot off. The player followed the ball into the box and luckily the attempted clearance rebounded back into the player’s path to secure a 2-1 victory for Bacup.
