Match Report: Bacup Borough X1 v Academy 92

Bacup Borough X1 -2 – Academy 92 – 1

Salford City Football Club owners the class of 92’s newly created & aptly named Academy 92 took on a Bacup Borough X1 at the Brian Boys West View Stadium in what was an early kick off, the game was divided into three thirty minute matches all of which did not disappoint the watching spectators has all the players from both sides produced excellent football coupled with channelled aggression which made this game an excellent game to watch.

The first game of thirty minutes featured Declan Oliver in goal a back three of Stuart Craig, Joe Carroll and Jordan Rutter, with a midfield of Josh Walne, Martin Cosgrave, Thomas Coulson, James Constantine and Ben Rhodes, with Wayne Morrison and Anthony Hall up front, the half was very much an even balanced affair with neither side testing either keeper has both defences were well on top a trend which lasted for the entire thirty minutes.

The second game Manager Brent Peters introduced the entire U18s guided by their Youth Team Coach Andrew Walker, in order to give them some stability at the back the Bacup Borough Captain Adrian Bellamy replaced the injured Jo Carroll with Stuart Craig and Jordan Rutter from the first team squad did continue at the back with the remaining eight players from the youth set up age ranging from 15yrs to 16yrs old, this was a good test against their full time rivals from which they did not disappoint, Academy 92 did take the lead during this thirty minute block, the goal came when Academy 92s young left sided player was positive attacking the box, the boy took on Bacup defender Stuart Craig before drilling the ball across the face of Bacup goal, the brave young Bacup keeper dived at the feet of the advancing players which initially he did avert any threat but such was the spin on the ball he failed to make the ball stick, once it slipped from his grasp Academy 92s Burrows was on hand for a simple tap in, this was the only goal to separate the two sides with an hour on the clock.

The final thirty minutes Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters brought back the side which opened the game with Captain Adrian Bellamy carrying on having replaced Carrol at the back, once again Academy 92 was not in any way fazed by their more experienced peers competing well and in possession using the ball well, equally the same can be said for Bacup Borough with both teams playing some neat football, Bacup did take the lead, making the contest 1-1 following winning a corner, the goal was all about the quality of delivery from Anthony Hall from which Joshua Walne produced a bullet header with the ball giving their keeper very little chance, Joshua Walne also had an hand in Bacup Borough’s winning goal when he won his side a free kick following a foul, Anthony Hall put in another quality delivery which Academy 92 headed clear but they were helpless when the ball dropped at the feet of Martin Cosgrave some twenty yards out, his excellent strike into goal gave the keeper very little chance of saving..

Bacup Borough ran out 2-1 winners but the real winners on the day was all of the players from both sides for producing the quality of football with this making it an enjoyable game to watch.

After the game Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters had this to say “ It was a pleasure to host this game against Academy 92 their Professionalism, Attitude, Commitment and skill factor was there in abundance for all to see, Peters added “ the template that Salford City are using for these boys I fully endorse, even in this short time they have been together, one could see by their stature, strength, attitude and ability that these boys will have an exciting future, Peters went on “ from my point of view it was important we played the 3 x 30 minute games has this did allow me the chance to play our U18s together, whilst the Academy 92 included boys from 16-18year olds, our under 18s included boys at 15 & 16 so not only younger but also not having the same privilege of being in full time, I was really pleased by their efforts and ability of our young boys to whom really did for the thirty minutes that they were on the pitch gave has much has they got against them, I was really pleased with what I did see. Peters finished by saying “ this game proved to be an excellent work out for both Academy 92 and ourselves, the football at times both sides produced was good on the eye, my senior players did not hold back showing their competitive edge whilst the Academy 92 boys were very much happy to give out has much has they got, with this they more than stood up to this, I really did enjoy this game, I enjoyed watching a good bunch of well drilled completive young boys from the Academy 92, I enjoyed seeing our young boys from Andrew Walkers group commit themselves exceptionally well, and I enjoyed the attitude and commitment of my senior players, the result was not important, their work ethics was so important, this said “ the fact we had lost a goal, it was pleasing that we went out in the last thirty minutes and did turn the game result wise around, this we did showing yet again good determined attitude, Peters finished by saying “ yes an excellent day at the office for many reasons “
