BACUP GO OUT OF THE VASE FIGHTING AGAINST IN FORM CHARNOCK RICHARD.
Charnock Richard 3-0 Bacup Borough
By Matthew Lawson.
The hosts come out on top in the FA Vase second qualifying round against a well organised Bacup Borough
The first half was a battle of the defences, neither side could break the deadlock at Mossie Park. But not without trying. In the opening 10 minutes the hosts were firstly denied by a smart save by ‘Keeper Josh Harris, then only for the woodwork to keep the ball out of the net. Bacup were unlucky not to take the lead just before the half hour mark when Tre Willis struck the cross bar with a vicious strike from the edge of the box. As the first half drew to a close Harris again denied Charnock the lead with another superb save.
Shortly after the second half began both sides had chances to take the lead in the tie, as the half went on Bacup as organised as ever, felt the game was for the taking and looked the more likely to score, after a counter attack saw Matthew Bryan take the ball down the line and hooked a cross into the box in search of Wayne Morrison, who’s shot was blocked and the ball was eventually cleared by the Charnock defence. Within moments of the Bacup chance just after the hour mark, Charnock’s Matthew Davison gets to the byline and cuts the ball back for the on rushing Jonathan Hession to put Charnock 1-0 up with a shot at the back post.
Bacup went looking for an equaliser and in doing so were caught out a swift counter attack after the ball was lost in the middle of the park saw Charnock eventually win a corner, after a shot was blocked by the Bacup defence. The resulting corner for the hosts was whipped in by Davison and defender Ross O’Farrell rose above Wayne Morrison to make it 2-0 with 15 minutes to go.
7 minutes before full time the ever fighting Bacup saw themselves go an undeserved 3-0 down after O’Farrell played Davison down the left hand side, who then beat a couple of Bacup defenders before slotting it home past Harris to get his name on the scoresheet after 2 assists in the game.
The game at Mossie Park between Charnock Richard and Bacup Borough ended 3-0 and Charnock will be in the hat for the next round.
Bacup were unlucky to be on the end of a 3-0 score line as this flattered the hosts, for Boro it was a performance to take the positives going into Wednesday nights game away in the Lancashire Challenge Cup at Holker Old Boys.
