Bacup fought hard in tough conditions against Holker at Rakesmoor

Within the opening minute of the cup tie Bacup came close to opening the scoring through Matthew Bryan heading just over the bar.
The next notable chance came after 16 minutes, after a great piece of holdup play, Bryan once again came close, he hit a left footed shot on the turn, but it was wide of the keepers right.

It took the hosts 21 minutes to register their first meaningful attempt as a left footed curler from the edge of the box flashed past Declan Oliver’s goal.

Bacup started to pile the pressure on at 0-0 and had two great chances in quick succession, the first Wayne Morrison played in Anthony Hall down the left who cut back and played the ball across the box in search of a Bacup man, it was met by Barlow but blocked and went out for a corner. The resulting corner was only cleared as far as Hall who steadied himself before a left footed shot just going over the crossbar.

Holker then came close to opening the scoring, just before the 30 minute mark, Tyler Spence cut inside off the left hand side and shot right footed, but it was comfortable for Bacup stopper Oliver.
The first goal of the game came in the 34th minute, Spence with the goal for the hosts, the ball ways played into his feet from deep, he touched it past the Bacup centre half and slotted a right footed shot across Oliver into the far left hand side of the net.
Shortly before half time, an unbelievable save from Oliver kept the score at 1-0 going into the break.

Bacup playing up the slope in the second half started well, but saw themselves go 2-0 down after 60 minutes, Spence turned provider for this one.

After 3 substitutions by manager Brent Peters, Bacup were back in the cup tie, with 10 minutes to go superb play from Matty Bryan made it 2-1. He darted in off the left took it past one and capitalised on a defensive error and struck the ball past the rooted Holker goal keeper.

Going into the final few minutes at Rakesmoor Lane, Bryan crossed a ball into the box, his strike partner Barlow rose highest at the back post, but he saw his effort go inches over the bar, Bacup were pushing for a late equaliser.

As Borough were in the hunt for a second, they were caught on the counter attack, Holker regained possession on the half way line and broke and ran at the Bacup centre half , played the ball square, the attacker took a touch out of his feet and slotted it into the back up net. 3-1 Holker at Full Time.

It’s back to the league for Bacup, Cheadle Town are the visitors to the Brian Boys West View Stadium on Saturday 30th September.
