Artjoms Sends Stockport From Russia With Love

Bacup gained a much needed victory in an entertaining game at the Brian Boys West View Stadium this evening. The man Brent calls ‘The Big Russian’ (although he’s actually from Lativia!!), Artjoms Butorins,  returned to his preferred position up front, in for the resting Tommy Turner, and he made an immediate impact, netting in the 5th minute after David Gray cleverly shielded the ball and set him up. Gray could have scored himself moments later after breaking clear but his final effort was held by Danny Taberner. Butorins was in the thick of the action and had four more chances during a half which Borough dominated and perhaps should have added to their total. HALF-TIME: Bacup Borough 1 Stockport Sports 0

After the interval Bacup again started on the front foot and it was no surprise when Boic Nhlizyo increased their lead in the 55th minute, beating the offside trap before coolly slotting home for his second goal of the season. Borough now looked comfortable but they were stunned when Andrews Frempong brought the visitors back into the game with a superb strike out of nothing from the edge of the area. Stockport then had their only notable spell of possession during the match but Boro held firm and nearly snatched another on the counter in the final minute when substitute Martin Cosgrave’s effort was well saved by Taberner at his near post. All in all though a very lively performance by Bacup which lifts them up a place to 17th in the table above Silsden who have played 6 games more. FULL-TIME: Bacup Borough 2 Stockport Sports 1
