Bacup & Rossendale Borough notched up their second win of the week with an impressive 2-0 win over Stockport Sports.

Manager Brent Peters was enforced into one change due to a suspension which saw Jack Alderson promoted to the starting line-up.

Borough made the worst possible start as they gave away a penalty in the very first minute. It was a debateable decision in all honesty but from the referee’s position you can see why he gave it. Stockport’s number 9 stepped up and new goalkeeper Mark Clapham saved well. BARB calmed down immediately after that so it was a very important stop.

My point was proven correct after 7 minutes as a nothing ball was played over the top from Borough in which Jack Alderson gave chase and superbly got round the defender and kept it in before setting up Simon Thompson who tucks it away sweetly.

Borough then spurned a great chance to double their lead as a weak pass back from Stockport’s midfield allowed Jack Alderson to nick in and race away but he just couldn’t get any purchase on the ball. However just a minute later on 16 minutes BARB did in fact double their lead. This came from another error from Stockport as a back pass was juggled then picked up by the goalkeeper leading to an indirect free-kick given. With the amount of bodies waiting to block on the line sometimes I wonder if there is any room to score, it turns out there is. The ball is rolled back to Lee Oldham who emphatically powers the ball into the roof of the net.

With the penalty save and two early goals this was another perfect start for the Borough.

As for the home side they weren’t creating much at all and could not keep the ball, the only thing they were testing at the moment was the side netting.

I was really impressed with BARB once again, I thought they showed great composure when on the ball and were terrifically organised. Wednesday night’s first win must have given them real confidence and belief which was clear throughout.

On 40 minutes Stockport had a glorious chance to get back into the game just before half-time as a corner was whipped in and the centre-back found himself unmarked with a free header but he heads downwards into the ground and it goes comfortably wide of the target.

2 minutes later and another good chance for the away side as Matty Bryan superbly harries his man, wins the ball back and plays through Simon Thompson whose shot couldn’t find the target.

In the first half Stockport made two substitutions now I don’t know if these players had injuries or not but I think these were tactical and the manager was clearly not happy with what he was watching.

Half-Time: Stockport 0-2 BARB

I know it is a massive footballing cliché but the next goal was certainly crucial. However, to be quite honest I could only see another goal coming for the away side as they were looking most comfortable.

Stockport were trying to find a way back into the game but they couldn’t break down BARB’s solid defence.

BARB then make a tactical change as they look for a new dimension bringing on big Artjoms Butorins for Jack Alderson.

The second half was much quieter than the first half and the chances were limited but Borough had good strikes on goal from Simon Thompson and Artjoms Butorins but the goalkeeper saved them superbly.

Stockport’s only real chance of the second half was a free-kick right on the edge of the box but it was blazed well over the goal and the stand.

10 minutes from time and another great chance for BARB to seal it as Boic Nhwziyo sends Thompson clean through but the keeper somehow kept it out again.

Another superb performance from Bacup & Rossendale Borough sees them go from 2 points to 8 points in just 4 days. A 3-0 win against Silsden on Wednesday and this 2-0 win against Stockport Sports sees them score 5 goals without conceding which is a massive turn-a-round and gives the team a new life of confidence.

Full-Time: Stockport Sports 0-2 BARB
