Boro Finally Set For Return To Action

After a three week enforced lay off, Bacup Borough finally return to action this evening with a trip to the Silent Night Stadium to take on Barnoldswick Town. The snow at West View, combined with a schedule of seven consecutive home games, has meant a prolonged spell of inactivity since two David Gray goals secured a 2-2 draw with Colne.

The rest has at least given a chance for a few injuries to heal and team captain Daniel Cocks is expected to be back in contention for a place in the starting line-up this evening. With 12 new signings added to the squad during the freeze manager Brent Peters will have his biggest squad of the season to select from this evening.

For Barnoldswick this has been a very disappointing season. Tipped by many, including themselves, to be genuine promotion contenders this season it hasn’t quite worked out that way and they find themselves down in ninth place some 21 points off the pace. The home fixture with Barnoldswick was played way back on August 15th, where a Cocks goal was insufficient to prevent the visitors going home with the points on a 3-1 scoreline.

For Borough they find themselves an incredible NINE games behind tonights opponents and were they to win them all they would actually go above them in the table. Whilst that is unlikely the plan for Peters men must be to win as many of the backlog fixtures as possible and move to a comfortable berth in the middle of the table. The initial set of games looks tricky, with a home game against Padiham on Thursday following tonights game and then a tough trip to in form Runcorn Linnets on Saturday. Peters will be hoping that the players can quickly dust off the rust and hit the ground running for the final run-in.

As usual for those unable to travel this evening there will be live updates on our two Twitter feeds @bacupborough and @bacupboro. A reminder that todays game has an 8pm kick-off.
