Borough Battle To The Bitter North End

BACUP BOROUGH 0  GLOSSOP NORTH END 0

Bacup found some hidden reserves of energy to battle for another point as they played their fourth game in four days at the Brian Boys West View Stadium today. Just 17 hours after they had left the pitch at AFC Liverpool, 5 of the same starting line-up were on the pitch again in the shape of Boic Nhlizyo, Daniel Coleman, David Gray, Artjoms Butorins and Daniel Cocks. They were joined this time by the returning John Ogden, Shane Birtles, Luke Morgan, Lee Oldham, Martin Cosgrave and Matty Bryan.

Coleman had the first effort of the match, driving wide from distance after nine minutes. Two minutes later Ogden produced a good stop to keep out Ben Connolly’s effort. At the other end on the quarter hour mark Bryan’s excellent free-kick was headed inches wide by Oldham. In the 26th minute Butorins shot on the turn went narrowly wide and he was even closer a moment later when Ben Proctor produced a fine one handed save to keep out his goalbound effort. Fatigue finally caught up with Gray on 32 minutes as he made way for Aleem Saleem, getting some game time for the first time this season. It was Saleem who drove narrowly wide on 43 minutes whilst the half ended with Bryan firing over. HALF-TIME: Bacup Borough 0 Glossop North End 0

The second half was a more even and cagey affair with little in the way of clear cut chances. Oldham scooped an effort over the bar on 70 minutes, whilst six minutes later at the other end Dean McGregor was denied by a fine save from Ogden. Cocks had an effort blocked in the area and the last serious goal threat came nine minutes from time when Ashley Smallwood’s strike cannoned off the crossbar to safety for the visitors. So, four games in four days and no defeats, six points gained. Everyone at the club salutes the gallant efforts of the players who should never have been put in this ridiculous situation. They now finally have 24 hours off before we go again for the final time against St. Helens Town on Monday. Come back tomorrow when Brent will be rounding up the weeks action from his point of view. FULL-TIME: Bacup Borough 0  Glossop North End 0
