Borough Expecting Squirrels To Be Tough Nut To Crack

Bacup Borough face Formby at the Brian Boys West View Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) and will be under no illusions about the task they face against the North West Counties League First Division leaders. Formby boast an impressive pedigree this season that has seen them thrash current Premier Division leaders Padiham 5-1 in the FA Carlsberg Vase, whilst they have also beaten Barnoldswick Town 3-2 away in the last round of this competition. They currently lie two points above second place Abbey hey, with two games in hand, and a further two points ahead of third placed AFC Darwen, this time with four games in hand. So, they look almost certain to be playing in the Premier Division next season having won 17 of their 19 league games played to date. They warmed up for tomorrows game with a 6-1 away demolition of Nelson on Wednesday night.

Borough boss Brent Peters is in a real selection dilemma ahead of the Lancashire Co-Operative Trophy Final at the Reebok Stadium on Monday night. He will have to get the right balance of resting players that he considers need the extra recovery time for the Reebok final, whilst at the same time making sure he puts out a team with the best chance of keeping Boro’s hands on the League Challenge Cup. In particular he has to make a decision on team captain Daniel Cocks, who failed to come off the bench at St. Helens Town on Tuesday night despite having completed his two match ban. He has, of course, not played since picking up an ankle injury in the last round of this competition against AFC Darwen.

John Deal from the NWCL will be at the game tomorrow and he will be conducting the draw for the semi-finals live at the ground after the game. This season the semis will be staged over one tie only instead of the usual two legs. This is due to fixture congestion in the leagues.
