Borough Face Toughest Test Yet At Bootle

Bacup travel to Merseyside tomorrow to face a Bootle side that at the moment look to have the box seat in the North West Counties League Premier Division title race. The game at the Delta Taxis Stadium kicks off at 3 pm. Although currently lying in fifth place, Bootle are just one point behind league leaders Runcorn Town with four games in hand and they also have at least two games in hand over all the other teams involved in the top six. Bootle have lost just once in the league, a 1-2 home reverse to Maine Road. They have won nine and drawn only 2 of their remaining 11 games. In the FA Cup with Budweiser they started with a 4-1 win over Alsager Town before having a superb 3-0 away win at current Evo Stik First Division North leaders Mossley. They went out at the First Qualifying Round stage, going down 1-2 at home to Bamber Bridge. In the FA Carlsberg Vase Bootle had a bye to the First Round where they beat Stockport Sports 3-2. They now face Baris NCEL Premier Division side Thackley in the next round. Last weekend Bootle dumped league leaders Runcorn Town out of the League Cup on a 3-0 scoreline. Bootle further strengthened their squad this Wednesday, with the signing of Marine player of the year Joe Fowler. The former Tranmere Rovers midfielder had made over 100 apperances in the Evo Stik Premier.

Manager Brent Peters is expected to have close to a full squad available as Borough now enter yet another ‘power phase’ of their season. After today the next two matches are away at Evo Stik League Radcliffe Borough in the Lancashire Co-Operative Trophy and then at home to leaders Runcorn Town. Peters and Andy Hill’s young squad will be looking to prove that they can step up to this difficult challenge.

As ever updates will be available on Twitter @bacupborough and @bacupboro . Better still get yourself along to Bootle. It was great to see so many travelling fans at Ashton last weekend, more of the same tomorrow would be much appreciated by Brent and the players.
