Bacup & Rossendale Borough and Parkgate somehow could not be separated after 240 minutes of engrossing football.

4-4 in the original tie and 0-0 in the replay in Bacup, I think all the goals were used up in Rotherham.

Manager Brent Peters made three changes to his side that drew 4-4 with Gareth Wager and Mark Clapham coming in along with Jonathan Lupepe in for the injured Luke Morgan.

It was a slow start in terms of goalmouth action as both teams fought extremely hard for possession and the opening chance and on 14 minutes Parkgate threw away a glorious chance as the impressive George Morley goes racing through on goal, clean through, but one slightly heavy touch leads it straight into the goalkeepers path.

This chance lead to another for the Yorkshire side just two minutes later as Matthew Plant has his powerful header well held by Mark Clapham.

The game was sparking into life now as Bacup go up the other end and Shane Birtles turns and exploits space then sees his ferocious shot go agonizingly over the crossbar.

3 chances in 3 minutes, just what the replay needed!

Midway through the first half and Matty Bryan stood over a dangerous free-kick which he whipped into a cracking area with his wand of a left foot and powerhouse Adrian Bellamy somehow missed the target with his glancing header.

Bacup started to push and create more and more as Bellamy stormed down the right side, put in a great cross which rolls right across to Bryan whose stinging shot was just well blocked. 5 minutes later and a superb counter attack is on for Borough as Aaron Kirk sprints down the left and goes all the way and sees his fierce shot well dealt with.

However on the 41st minute it should definitely have been 1-0 to the home side as Bryan’s left peg again from a corner whips in and goes directly into the back of the net. 1-0 everyone is thinking, oh no a foul is given for something oblivious to all watching, still goalless.

Half-Time: BARB 0-0 Parkgate

A change at the break for Bacup as Artjoms Butorins comes off for top goal scorer Simon Thompson.

Bryan was causing all sorts of problems down the left hand side and this time he comes inside and goes with his swinging right foot which the keeper spills and only just retrieves.

BARB were starting to press even more in search for that killer goal and the game itself was getting more heated as both sides were battling incredibly hard. As the second half progressed there weren’t many chances just a few bad tackles and wayward shots from Daniel Cocks and Adrian Bellamy. Also there were certainly cases for penalty kicks as firstly Shane Birtles appeared to be kicked off the ball by the keeper and then Thompson looked to be clearly dragged down, however the referee wasn’t giving it.

One final chance for Parkgate in normal time as Ashley Emson goes incredibly close with a cracking effort from distance.

Full-Time: Bacup & Rossendale Borough 0-0 Parkgate

So here we were again, going into extra-time to see if one of these teams could finally apply that crucial blow.

Peters made another change which saw the once again magnificent Aaron Kirk subbed for Marcus Calvert.

The first action in extra-time was Bryan trying his luck from a corner again; I’m not sure if he is just trying to whip it in or generally go for goal.

The other attempts in the half all came from Bryan again as he was striving to get that goal for victory but in all truth this game looked destined to go all the way to the lottery which is the penalty shoot-out.

Half-Time in Extra-Time: 0-0

Not like the first but in this second half of extra-time there were quite a few chances to knick it. Firstly Bryan finds himself with grass to run into and his corridor cross was somehow not turned in. Then following this Thompson strikes well which produced another good save.

Then it was Parkgate’s turn to try their luck as Scott Lowe’s superb free-kick from range was just dealt with by Clapham. Then two minutes from time Lowe again whipped a free-kick in which everybody missed and dropped inches past the post. Some even thought it was in.

So 240 minutes of football and these teams just could not be separated.
