Bacup Borough FC can announce that they will play a tribute match to their late player Bryan Herbert in early July. The game, against Stacksteads St. Josephs FC, will be the first in an annual fixture to contest the Bryan Herbert Trophy. The game will also be the very last match that Bacup Borough FC play under their old title. All pre-season friendlies after this game will be played under the new title announced this week.
Manager Brent Peters has placed Steven Lumb of Stanley Jacks Limited in charge of the Borough team for the day and he had this to say about the fixture: “Due to holidays and the changeover of the squad going forward and also taking account of the fact that our Premium Sponsors Stanley Jacks office is situated midway between both clubs, it seemed a fitting tribute and by way of a thankyou to Stanley Jacks to give permission on this occasion for Steven to select a Bacup Borough guest XI for the match made up of some former, current and guest players”.
A special commemorative programme will be issued for the game, which will be on a date to be finalised as soon as we get clearance from our ground contractors, who will be doing the usual remedial work on the West View pitch over the Summer.
