DIFFICULT WEEK FOR PETERS ENDS POSITIVE

Bacup Borough  3 – Darwen 2

Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters started the week facing the prospect of not having a recognised Goal Keeper for the League Cup Semi Final first leg two weeks away, the rules state that loan players are not able to participate and any new signings had to be signed fourteen days prior to the tie and with this also  would need the required number of games in order to play in a semi final, not an easy task given that Bacups keeper James Cottam is on a youth loan from Preston North End , with only two matches before the all important game with Avro time was running out for the Bacup Manager. Manager Brent Peters commented “  our goal keeping situation presented me with a major concern, a situation I have been working on over the past ten days but really not getting very far but then thanks to the efficiency of the Football Association by the speed in which they and their counterparts at the Belgium FA moved to Internationally clear Youth International Thomas Lamlot, a keeper we had on our books from previous but not cleared, this because he was only classed as a minor, Peters went on “ the fact this season at step six there are no play offs my main focus now is trying to get through an extremely tough two legged Semi Final with Avro” Peters said “ for the previous games  I have been changing certain things, be this players, be this team shape, this I will continue to do, whilst our players will know how we are going to go in terms of shape in the Semi Final, I am not so sure the opposition will and that is how I want to keep it, Peters added” this game against Darwen was an extremely important game for myself and my Coach Dave Felgate,  I introduced three debutants, Centre Half Sven Gibson from Prestwich Heys, Thomas Lamlot Goal Keeper & Midfield player Milo Ogden to whom was introduced to me from my previous Coach Danny Jones, I am pleased to say all three had an impressive debut, all three are eligible for the Semi Final so will be great additions pushing for contention, Peters said “ It was good to get Anthony Hall back following a short injury, equally pleasing was the fact Anthony came back not only proving his fitness but with two well taken goals has a bonus, I was also really pleased for young Ben Rhodes, despite his lack of chances in our starting line up his attitude and commitment around the club have been exemplary, Ben was given a start, a good honest performances was rewarded with a goal his determination and desire deserved, Peters went on “ I was pleased with what I saw on show  from all in the first half, we completely dictated the half, Darwen could really think themselves lucky to only be two behind at the break, Peters added “ I must admit there was times in the second half when we dropped our tempo and Darwen did up theirs, I put this down to maybe some of the new lads starting to run on empty after putting in good shifts, I had no complaints about their Penalty, from our point of view it was avoidable, it was lazy defending which is not acceptable, I was also disappointed with their second goal, pro ratio of players behind the ball from Bacup compared to Darwen, no way should the opposition have got through, sadly I could not legislate for those players back there reacting like rabbits in the headlights,, but that apart, all in all after the week that was of sheer frustration, out of this game there was certainly more positives than negatives “ Positive Debuts, Positive team performance for at least three quarters of the game, Positive Anthony Hall back from injury with two goals, positive that Ben Rhodes responds with a goal, positive that we managed to secure the services of a good young keeper in time, and finally and most importantly  Positive we got a well earned three points”
