Edler Calls On Rossendale To Get Behind Its Team In Final

Bacup Borough FC’s Head of Business Development Dave Edler has called on the people of Rossendale to get behind ‘their’ team when Bacup play in the Final of the Lancashire Co-Operative Trophy at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on Monday March 11th 2013.

“This is the first time Bacup have reached the Final for 38 years and they will be bidding to win the Trophy for the first time since 1911. We need the people of Rossendale to rally behind us and to come out in force at the Reebok on March 11th. We are now Rossendale’s only senior side and so we are calling on people to put aside any remaining traditional rivalries and accept that we now fly the flag for the whole of the Valley. We see ourselves as representing the Borough of Rossendale and so this is very much a cup Final for all the people of the Valley”.

It is the first time in living memory that a Rossendale team has reached a major final at a Stadium used for Premiership football (until Bolton’s relegation last season) and it is arguably the biggest match for any team from the Valley in the past 50 years. Borough will be running a coach for the fixture and bookings can be made by calling 01706 871733 or e-mailing The coach will leave at 5.45 pm and the return fare will be £10.

Edler is also calling on the business community to get behind the team in two ways:-

“Firstly, please get behind us to promote this match and let people know it is happening. This is a once in a generation opportunity to support a Rossendale team in a major Final in a major Stadium so we need as many people as possible from the Valley to travel along to the Reebok on March 11th. Tell all your work colleagues and business contacts and lets really publicise this achievement”.

“Secondly, we are asking businesses to pledge £50 to our ‘We’re Backing Bacup’ campaign to allow us to make the best possible preparations to get the team ready for the Final. In return you will appear in both the Matchday Magazine and on a special page on our website with details of your pledge. Please take advantage of this opportunity to help us secure our place in History. To make your pledge please call 01706 871733 or e-mail”.

The club will face a team of at least Evo Stik Premier Division standard in the Final, with AFC Fylde, Marine, Kendal Town and Southport all still battling it out for a place against Borough in the Final.
