Frozen Pitch Puts Ashton Game In Doubt

Bacup Borough are due to face Ashton Athletic at the Brian Boys West View Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm. The match gives Borough an early chance to avenge the 2-1 defeat at Brocstedes Park three weeks ago when Daniel Cocks late penalty miss consigned Boro to defeat. Ashton currently lie one place above Borough in the North West Counties League Premier Division table and are one point better off on 23 points.  However, Bacup currently have 5 games in hand on their visitors.

The main worry for Borough boss Brent Peters, however, as he recovers from a severe bout of flu that saw him miss Tuesday’s excellent win at AFC Blackpool, is the state of the West View pitch. At lunchtime today it was frozen solid in about 90% of all areas with no prospects of being able to get on it and no thaw predicted this afternoon. Peters will be relying on some overnight rain to soften the pitch up otherwise the prospects for play do not look good as no referee would allow a game to go ahead with the current hardness.

Check back tomorrow morning for a further update.
