MANAGER REACTION: Disappointment at Vase Exit

Following Saturdays exit from the FA Vase, the Bacup Manager Brent Peters had this to say “ The fact that we have failed to progress in this seasons FA Vase Competition is not only a real disappointment to myself but by the reaction of my senior players following the game in the confines of our changing rooms it most certainly hurt them also, Peters added “ there can be no excuses, this was a national competition that offers prize money to the winners along the way, the rewards were great for the club but also the rewards can be good for the players with the ultimate prize being Wembley Stadium, yet certain situations that unfolded which ultimately resulted in goals, were scored because certain players failed to do enough in isolated situations to prevent the goals happening, Peters said “ even my two most experienced and reliable defenders that have been solid this season messed up in the opening minutes to gift Remyca an early lead, this said I have to question why when this situation unfolded it was at the top of the buy line that other players did not put themselves on the line in order to pull their team mates out of the mess they had got themselves in, this in itself disappointed me because no way that should have resulted in a goal position the breach started, Peters went on” when we got the equaliser through Michael Gervin we were very much in this contest so much so by the way we was playing I felt confident it would be us going in the hat for the next round, however what I did not legislate for was when Remyca forced a second half corner and my keeper seemed to lose concentration by pleading with the Referee for protection, claiming an infringement on him when the ball was delivered and following a reverse header towards goal he was not set right, although he did get an hand to the effort but could not keep the ball out of the net, Peters added “ I am convinced had he stayed focussed and give has much back he would have kept that ball out, it was from this moment very quickly our Vase dream was smashed when they got themselves two more goals in quick succession, Peters went on “ another disappointment has a Manager was the fact I made positive substitutions with another two strikers entering the field of play in order to get us back into the game, but when they fail to pick up the pace of the game and fail to get their basic’s right leaving potential good attacking opportunities too easily breaking down, then the subs turned out to be a negative rather than a positive and based on that in hind sight I maybe should not have brought them on, at the time it was the right thing to do but sadly they gave us nothing, Peters finished by saying “ every credit to Litherland Remyca when opportunities presented themselves they was clinical, but once their second goal went in, we has a group drifted disappointingly further away from securing anything from this game “
