Emphatic Borough put Five past Steeton

Bacup Borough 5-1 Steeton AFC

By Matthew Lawson

Borough were off to a flyer, with only 42 seconds on the clock Bacup were ahead, Josh Walne swung in an inch perfect cross onto the head of Matty Dell who looped his header up and over the Goalkeeper to score his first Borough goal of the season.

Brent Peters side controlled the game in the early parts, and were unlucky not to be further in front.

A lapse in concentration from the Borough goalkeeper gifted the visitors a equaliser.

But this didn’t affect Bacup as every time they went forward they looked a threat, Anthony Hall and Josh Walne exchanged well as Hall advanced into the area his quick feet earned him a penalty as he was brought down by a late tackle in the Box.
Hall stepped up and converted the spot kick to regain the lead for Bacup.

Moments later Hall was causing havoc on the right, again his pace troubling the Steeton defence as he was brought down once again this time outside the area towards the right hand sideline. Anthony Hall whipped the ball into the box where it was met by Captain Adrian Bellamy who steered his header beyond the Steeton ‘keeper to make it 3-1.

Minutes into the second half Bacup had a 4th, Josh Walne and Matty Dell combining once again, Walne with a brilliantly weighted ball into Dell who’s pace and power got him away from his marker as he slotted the ball right footed under neath the keeper.

Michael Gervin got off the mark for the season in some style scoring Bacup’s fifth of the afternoon. He picked the ball up around 40 yards from goal, looked up to see the keeper of his line and he unleashed a venomous right footed strike which sailed over the keeper and into the back of the net without touching the ground. It was some strike from the Bacup midfielder. What a way to round off an excellent performance.

Borough could have had a sixth late on when Hall struck the upright with a curling left footed effort from the edge of the Box. The frame of the goal was rattled again this time another long distance effort from Gervin, the Keeper was beaten but the bar denied Gervin his second of the game.

A quality display from Bacup and a fully deserved 5-1 victory in which secured all 3 points.
