Bacup Borough 0 -Oswestry Town 1

matthew-barlow davison-bandaBacup failed to make it two consecutive home wins on the bounce but have only themselves to blame with critical failures at both ends of the pitch.

Despite a promising start from the Shropshire visitors to whom struck the cross bar with a really good header following a cross into the box from the Bacup’s left and following an early free kick at the edge of the box resulted in a side netting shot, it was Bacup that should have taken the lead when Bacup’s lively forward Anthony Hall was brought down inside the penalty area, up stepped Bacup Boroughs former Oldham Athletic striker Matthew Barlow, the fact he was facing one of the smallest keepers you will see, many thoughts would be that Barlow just could not miss, twelve yards out and a midget in goal but how wrong our thoughts were as Matthew Barlow stepped up and smashed the ball well over the houses of Farm Avenue behind the West View Stadium, this proved to be a costly miss but what was to follow was equally has bad at the defencive end of the pitch, Oswestry broke down Bacup Boroughs right, the run and delivery from the wide position was just to easy, the ball was drilled across the face of goal from which Davison Banda completely misjudged the flight of the ball, which went under his raised leg into the space beyond him where an Oswestry player gratefully took advantage of this calamity to smash the ball into the net.

From this moment on it was always going to be a frustrating afternoon for Boro, with Oswestry having something to hang onto and Bacup desperate to get back into this game, the stalling and cynical tactics of the visitors was not at all helping Bacup’s cause.

In the second half it was constantly stop, start with Oswestry at every opportunity just constantly conceding free kicks to the home side, the fact that Bacup lacked in quality on their delivery of these free kicks only added to the frustration within the Bacup team in not being able to muster a single goal to guarantee a share of the spoils.
