MATCH REPORT: BACUP BOROUGH vs Prestwich Heys

Thursday 3rd May 2018

Bacup 2-0 Prestwich Heys

Borough record impressive victory

By Matthew Lawson

Borough prepared for their fourth game in six days against automatic promotion hopefuls Prestwich Heys.

Young Kyle Brooks was handed his second senior start by Brent Peters after impressing in Tuesday nights slender defeat at Cammell Laird. Peters also handed a senior start to Louis Holding as he again freshened up his starting line up.

In the opening half an hour, neither side created much as both midfields and defences stood firm in what was an entertaining thirty minutes.

Shortly after Borough took the lead, a superb left footed free kick from Matty Bryan was whipped towards the back post where Josh Walne cleverly headed back across goal, where captain Adrian Bellamy headed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Borough stayed resolute at the back and saw the 1-0 lead into half time.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first half, both sides were looking lively and looking for a goal but for very different reasons. Prestwich needed a win to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive. And Borough needed that second to kill the game off and win them all 3 points.

Just after the hour mark Borough came close to a second, a well struck shot from the edge of the box forced a brilliant save from Smith low to his right.

Into the last 10 minutes and Substitute Bobby Carter headed home his first ever Bacup Borough
Goal and made it 2-0, great wing-play from Matty Bryan set the ball back for fullback Rees Welsh who whipped the ball into the box, on a plate for Carter who’s looping header was as far in the top left corner as it could go.

A great defensive display ensured Borough all three points following a fine performance all round.

3 more back to back home games come for Borough, with Oswestry Town the visitors on Saturday.
