BACUP BOROUGH 2-3 ST HELENS TOWN

OWN GOAL WINNER FOR THE SAINTS PROVES COSTLY FOR BORO.

Bacup were back at home for the first time since mid February but they were unable to make it a winning return as St Helens Town were the victors in the NWCFL match.

Manager Brent Peters handed Louis Holding his first senior start for the club after impressive performances for the U18 side.

Both sides enjoyed the possession early on, the visitors took the lead on the 15 minute mark, Andrew Webster beat Jean Khasa to the ball at the back post following a deep corner from the left after Karl Price failed to claim the ball at the first attempt.

Borough were on level terms 5 minutes before half time, great link up play from Bobby Carter and Matthew Bryan resulted in Bryan through one on one and he slotted the ball under Carl Williams in the St Helens goal.

Just before the hour mark in the game, St Helens regained the lead. Borough failed to clear from a deep free kick, the ball was hooked back into the box and headed home from Andrew Presho unmarked at the back post.

Bacup were back level just minutes later, Bryan burst through and got to the ball before Williams who brought Bryan down in the box and referee Matthew Archibald pointed to the spot. Bryan stepped up for Borough and sent the keeper the wrong way to equalise a second time for Bacup.

As the game entered the last 15 minutes, St Helens Town took the lead for a third time following a cross from the left the ball was turned home Past Karl Price by his own team mate Kieran Turner.

Borough hunted for an equaliser but St Helens dug deep and left the Rossendale Valley with all 3 points.
