Bacup Borough -2- Abbey Hulton United -0
This was a fitting end to what has been a difficult frustrating season for Bacup with one of the worst winters on record and games constantly being postponed, this all was a distant memory for Brent Peters side having had to play thirteen games in the final month in order to catch up and complete their fixtures, but what an ending it was, finishing with four straight wins which put Bacup sixth in the form table having won four and narrowly losing two games out of their final six, in addition Vice Captain Matthew Bryan collecting his player of the month award for not only an outstanding month, but for an outstanding season, Louis Holding Scoring his first senior goal for the club since stepping up from Bacup’s under 18s, but it did not end here with a large following having made the trip from the potteries in support of Abbey Hulton but bringing also a party atmosphere to the Brian Boys Stadium on a glorious sunny afternoon, it did not dampen their spirits in any way when player of the month Matthew Bryan opened the scoring for Bacup fourteen minutes into the game, Kyle Brooks one of the class of 18 got onto the ball before delivering a nice weighted pass for Matthew Bryan to get away from their defender before drawing their keeper to then finish.
It was Bacup Borough that was dominating all of the possession and really the should have doubled their lead when once again Bryan burst through before squaring the ball unselfishly for his strike partner Ben Rhodes, the Abbey keeper was quickly out and threw himself in line of Rhodes shot to prevent what should have been Bacup’s second.
Despite Bacup Borough’s possession the score line remained the slender one goal difference, this until the introduction of another Class of 18 Louis Holding who replaced Ben Rhodes to whom had worked hard, on seventy eight minutes Holding got his first senior goal for the club since his progression from the under 18s, it came when both Holding and Bryan committed an high press together, Holding dispossessed their defender before turning into the space to his left then with some composure he finished well, another class of 18 was introduced at the back with Oliver Crew replacing Nathan Tayo, Bacup finished as they started well on top securing three points making it four wins on the bounce and yet again another clean sheet from a well organized disciplined defence marshalled by Captain Adrian Bellamy.
