BACUP 2-1 Whitchurch Alport

By Matthew Lawson

Bacup were well fired up for this game starting brightly and positive with a good tempo, this Boro continued through out in what proved to be a pulsating game against a very good side in form Whitchurch Alport.

Inside the first minute Bacup were 1-0 up. Charlie Collinge’s rasping right footed half volley had Krystian Burzynski rooted to the spot as the ball flew into the top right hand corner. What a start from Borough.

Bacup could have seen themselves 2-0 up just minutes later through Matthew Bryan, following a neat exchange he advanced infield and took a shot on right footed which was tipped over the bar for a corner.
Bryan became the provider for Borough’s next chance, a knock down into Adrian Bellamy following a sweet cross-field ball from Josh Walne saw the Captains sliding effort agonisingly hit the upright before being cleared away upfield by the Alport defence.

As the half came to a close, the visitors were level, a corner from the left had side was nodded home by Ryan Thomas.

The second half began in a similar fashion to the first, this time Burzynski saved well from Josh Walne low to his left , as Borough fought to regain the lead. Borough stayed resilient at the back and nullified any Whitchurch attacks with clever defensive play resulting in Whitchurch having to shoot from distance but each and every player in the Black and White of Bacup Borough out their bodies in the way of anything the visitors came at them with.
With 20 minutes left on the referees watch, Bacup took the lead, superb defensive play from Davison Banda having won the ball back in his own half found Charlie Collinge in midfield who’s perfectly weighted through ball in behind to the Matty Bryan who cooly finished right footed past the advancing Burzynski to make it 2-1.

A defensive master class ensued for the final 15 minutes, anything that came towards the back line was dealt with excellently, each and every player on that pitch for Bacup put everything in to defending the 2-1 lead, a quality performance that well and truly deserved all 3 points in what was a very tough fixture for Brent Peters side.

Borough face another tough test on Thursday night when they play host to Litherland Remyca.
