MATCH REPORT: New Mills vs BACUP BOROUGH

Saturday 28th April 2018

NEW MILLS AFC 0-3 BACUP BOROUGH

CLASSY BOROUGH TO GOOD FOR THE MILLERS

By Matthew Lawson

Both Jordan Wilmore and Kevin Masirika returned to the starting line up in only two changes from Monday’s win at home to play-off hopefuls Whitchurch Alport.

Bacup started off the brighter of the two sides, Josh Walne came close to opening the scoring early on but, his sliding far post effort hit the bottom of the post before the New Mills defence cleared the danger.

Borough took the lead on 15 minutes through top goal scorer Matty Bryan, Walne with a superbly weighted ball over the top to play in Bryan who after a couple of touches slotted home past Oliver Martin.

Minutes later it could have been two, Bryan floated a cross in from the left, it was met by Walne but he couldn’t direct his header on target.

Bacup continued to control the game and saw their 1-0 lead into the half time break. The second half was much of the same, Borough controlling the tempo and creating chances.

On the hour mark, Captain Adrian Bellamy doubled Bacup’s lead, a simple side footed effort past Martin who had initially saved Matty Bryan’s left footed strike low to his left, but Bellamy was in the right place to turn home the rebound.

Within a matter of minutes of the restart it was 3-0. Matty Bryan was causing the New Mills back line nothing but trouble all afternoon and as he darted inside from the left and he was blocked off in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot, Bryan stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to score his second of the game and cap off a Man of The Match performance.

The games come thick and fast for Bacup who take on league leaders Silsden on April 30th at The Westview Stadium followed by an away trip 24 hours later at Play Off chasing Camel Laird.
