MATCH REPORT: Shelley Vs Bacup ‘Battle of the Roses’

Borough FOURMIDABLE In The Battle of the Roses

Shelley 1-  Bacup Borough-4

Bacup made new ground on Boxing Day when they made the journey over the Pennine’s into Yorkshire for a battle of the roses and did not disappoint.

Bacup started brightly bringing a stunning save from the home sides keeper when Josh Walne struck the ball goal bound following good link up play with the menacing Matthew Dell but it was Shelly that took the lead, Bacup were in possession of the ball on the right with Davison Banda, his wayward pass up the line to Matthew Dell went out of play for a Shelley throw, the ball went across midfield with the Shelley player getting the better of Walne and Bellamy before crossing, the advancing Shelley player coming down Bacup Borough’s left found himself in space with enough time to pick his spot,  this set back seemed to spur Borough onto a different level in producing some stunning football , with it came four well taken goals all before half time,  Striker Bobby Carter got Bacup back on level terms following Captain Adrian Bellamy recycling the ball into the path of Josh Walne to whom found Carter to finish.

It was not long before Bacup got themselves in front when Michael Gervin battled hard to win the ball from his Shelley Counter part in midfield before attacking the space with an excellent penetrating run into the box before placing the ball into the corner of the net making it 2-1 to Bacup, at this point Bacup just ramped up the pressure with constant attacks against their Yorkshire opponents to whom was struggling to contain them, this brought a penalty which Anthony Hall finished before Hall himself adding the fourth which was another quality finish.

The Second half got underway of which credit to Bacup despite what Shelley did throw at them, they soaked up the pressure really well not allowing their hosts in finding a way back, whilst at the opposite end of the pitch both Adrian Bellamy and Darcy O’Connor went close leaving the final result being from the damage inflicted during the first forty five minutes.
