Peters: “4G Pitch Not The Same For Both Sides”

Bacup Borough Boss Brent Peters felt that the new 4G surface at the Stockport Sports Village definitely favoured the home side in their North West Counties League Premier Division encounter last Saturday, but despite this he still feels that his charges did enough to warrant taking something out of the game:

“Despite the fact we found ourselves two goals down at the break both their goals came against the run of play. In the first 45 minutes chances fell to Kingsley Williams, Haydn Paul and Steve Maden and all three of them really should have done better although in Haydn Paul’s defence the lad was tripped but his honesty to stay on his feet prevented the official from giving it. This despite the clever nudge being enough for Haydn not to get anything on his effort, I also think it is fair to say on another attack there was a blatant handball but again the official did not want to make the big decisions”.
Brent added: “Both Stockport Sports goals were poor from our point of view, the set up was wrong from a throw in from which we conceded, identical to the only goal which put us out of the FA Vase. This was down to certain individuals switching off and refraining from carrying out their duties on the set up. Their second goal, although their lad did well with individual ability, was a shot that was not going anywhere until it took a wicked deflection. At half time whilst disappointing to be two down, we were confident that we had enough to get back into the game. Sadly in contrast to the first half when we were working good positions and with it creating opportunities, this we failed to do after the break. The best way I can describe our second half was we huffed and puffed whilst Stockport never troubled us further.” Peters concluded by saying” I told the players that players carrying knocks the 4 G surface will certainly bring this to the fore, I honestly believe that the surface did not help us at all. The old adage that it is the same for both sides I do not agree with. Stockport Sports are full time, they are on the surface daily, we are not full time and we are not on the surface daily. If you take our bad set up on a throw in away which led to their opening goal, the fact they got lucky with their second goal, in terms of teams we were the better team in the first half and in the second half neither impressed me”
