Peters: ‘Performance Good, Result Bad’

Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters spoke following the Runcorn Town Game when he had this to say: ” The first thing I want to point out is that Runcorn Town last season just missed out on becoming the League Champions and this season they have remained consistent in getting once again to the summit of our competition. Well, in this match they were second best for the majority of this game. I was pleased the way we dominated possession in both halves, we took a well deserved lead into the break with a well taken goal by Steve Maden following a good ball into him from debutant Paul Arrowsmith.” Peters added “When the opposing Manager shakes your hand at full time and tells me we deserved more out of that game that says it all. I was pleased with the lads commitment and work rate and by the way we did put a very good side onto the back foot for long periods.” Peters continued ” The difference between the two sides was their keeper who did pull off two stunning saves from Haydn Paul. However, that said for the first six minutes of the second half we were sadly still in the changing rooms. Runcorn as expected came at us, they won a corner and from this we conceded, the reason being because as a unit when the ball was played back before delivery our defenders failed to follow the ball by pushing up. We were too deep, the ball delivered was then not dealt with and this situation is really soul destroying when for long periods Bacup were in the ascendancy. Their second goal was also a disappointment when having seen Ryan Jones do well when faced with a 1v1 situation he was then let down by his team mates who failed to continue their run whilst the Runcorn Striker saw an opportunity and seized the moment to smash the ball into the net.” Peters concluded “From ninety minutes of taking the league leaders to task, a bad couple of minutes of switching off was enough for Runcorn to seize the moment, that is what makes Champions. Defend well, ride your luck at times, then capitalise on a switch off at the opposite end. In the main performance was good, bad result”
