Peters: ‘We Answered Our Critics’

Bacup Borough FC manager Brent Peters spoke after what had been a difficult couple of weeks for his young squad: ” It has been a difficult couple of weeks for the boys going out of both lucrative FA competitions and then certain individuals coming in  for unnecessary criticism from one group of so called supporters. This meant that this game was always going to be a pressured game given all the circumstances so both myself and Andy Hill  made our points before the game and the boys responded brilliantly with a very good positive display from the start to finish. People must remember this side is talented but collectively very young  and as a result they will not be able to handle the negativity that has been targeted at certain players. The fact there was no negativity from the touchlines  for this game meant that it did not surprise me that the entire team looked relaxed. With this they gave a very good display, this including young Joseph Edwards the 17 year old trainee from Oldham who performed well under the watchful eye of Tony Philliskirk the Oldham Youth Team Coach.  Tony also commented on how well we did play and the team includes a talented bunch of players”. Peters added ” It is always pleasing to get the views off a neutral but very knowledgable person as Tony, Daniel Cocks took the lead as Captain with a well taken hat trick, his first goal came as a result of very good hold up play from Adam Dale  who laid the ball well weighted off to Daniel who shaped his effort brilliantly just inside the post. Once again Vice Captain Otis Gorman and Gareth Wager were solid at the back well covered by Joe Edwards and Shane Birtles, the midfield were once again full of energy with both Steve Maden and Kingsley Williams covering a lot of ground and with it being the driving engine room, it was certainly very good to watch.” Peters finished by saying “No doubt Colne will be a different proposition but providing the watching public do get behind the lads with positives rather than constantly being negative, then I am sure the lads will also respond positively, after all these are young players playing at a tough level, so encouragement is a must”
