Reebok On Back Burner As Boro Face Crucial Test At Ashton

Bacup Borough need to put their forthcoming trip to the Reebok Stadium firmly to the back of their minds when they travel to Brocstedes Park tomorrow for a crucial North West Counties League Premier Division fixture against one of the sides below them in the league table. Borough have already made the journey to Ashton-in-Makerfield once this season, producing their best performance of the season to trounce the hosts 5-1 in a League Challenge Cup tie. However, with Ashton now under the new management of Jimmy McBride and having shown signs of improvement in recent weeks Borough boss Brent Peters knows that the trip will not be easy.

Darren Evans, after making his debut on Wednesday, is likely to continue in the squad and there are likely to be few changes to the team that performed so well in the cup semi-final, although Peters will be making a late decision on the fitness of keeper Ryan Jones.

Ashton have been having a woeful season but will be spurred on by the success of their arch rivals Ashton Town who are currently riding high in the Division One table. McBride will be determined to ensure that the two sides do not swap places at the end of the season and instead he will be wanting a big Ashton derby next Boxing Day in the Premier Division. McBride and Peters have been exchanging plenty of views and banter on Twitter over the past few weeks but all of that will stop at 3pm on Saturday as this is a ‘must win’ game for both clubs. Borough badly need to kick start their league season and to remove any nagging doubts about being dragged into a relegation struggle, whilst a win for Ashton would put them right on Borough’s tail.

In the League Cup tie we had excellent away support at Brocstedes Park and the same again tomorrow would be greatly appreciated by Peters and his players. If you are really unable to get there then you can follow updates on Twitter @bacupborough and @bacupboro.
