RIP Eric Whalley

It is with devastation & sadness that I have to bring the news that my former Chairman, Mentor & Friend Eric Whalley has passed away.

Eric’s last official football appointment was director of football here at Bacup & Rossendale Borough FC, a position that this club was honoured and proud and privileged to have such a knowledgeable experienced genuine football man taking up such a position within our club. Sadly, due to Eric being taken ill, it was a position short lived.

The football fraternity have a mighty lot to thank Eric Whalley for, clubs such as Morecambe, Accrington Stanley, Greatt Harwood Town, Clitheroe, Ramsbottom United & ourselves to name but a few. Players to whom he has helped mature and prosper within the game, even the TV and media for his forthright views and of course the hugely amusing TV documentary based upon Accrington Stanley. Eric was also well known throughout the Lancashire League for cricket, a genuine good all round sports man.

Eric was not only a successful football man but also a successful business man from whom he has guided his family to continue and prosper in the family business.

Our thoughts today are with his wife and his family, his children and his grandchildren. Eric you were a truly great helpful man to whom will be missed by all, none more so than myself and the rest of the Bacup family.

R I P   Great Man!
