Vase Campaign Starts With Trip To In-Form Reds

Tomorrow (Saturday) Bacup Borough start their FA Carlsberg Vase campaign with a trip to AFC Liverpool in the First Qualifying Round. The match at Valerie Park (home of Prescot Cables FC) kicks off at 3 pm. The hosts certainly come into the tie with a bit of form behind them, having delivered a shock 3-1 away victory at Runcorn Town in midweek. Last Saturday the Reds exited the FA Cup with Budweiser at the same stage as ourselves, going out to their landlords Prescot Cables in a tie watched by over 300 fans. In the previous round they had beaten AFC Blackpool to record their first ever win in the competition. It promises to be a tough first outing for new team captain Daniel Cocks. The winners of the tie will travel to face Baris NCEL side Askern Villa in the Second Qualifying Round on Saturday September 15th. If the tie is drawn on Saturday any replay would be at the Brian Boys West View Stadium on Wednesday September 5th, meaning Tuesday’s planned league fixture at Squires Gate would be postponed.
