Which striker should Tottenham go for this summer?

As Tottenham Hotspur have been teetering on becoming established title contenders season in season out maybe is this where the North London club can actually become a real force to the title?

If you go through the current Spurs side there are few position in which you can say that needs improving on. They have a world class goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris, a good mix of experience and uprising talents in defence and a fantastic midfield in which is about to be boosted by the Brazilian prowess of Paulinho. However the one area you could definitely say needs improving or strengthening is in the forward position. At the moment they only have two main out and out strikers in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor has actually been linked with a move to Turkey in the past few days and then would have to purchase one or two more forwards at least.

As the transfer window officially has opened speculation increases at an uncontrollable rate as always and the two main forwards that Tottenham have been heavily linked with are David Villa and Leandro Damião. They have also been weakly linked with Christian Benteke and Loic Remy however I can’t see either of them moving to Tottenham. (Source: Givemesport)

Could one of these two star players push Spurs to the top?

Therefore in my opinion it would have to be between Villa and Damião.

David Villa

As reports have been increasing coming from Spain that the Barcelona forward Villa is becoming more unsettled and would welcome a move. Especially with the addition of wonder kid Neymar. Villa, 31 years of age now, I know I was surprised too however he should be available at a reasonable price. If the Spaniard did move to Spurs I think he would be a terrific acquisition to the squad and he really could provide 20+ goals and that is also with the man of the moment Gareth Bale (if he stays). The doubters of this man may say that he is 31 and may be past his peak. However my view is that he is a natural born finisher and clearly has an eye for goal as he has proven at Valencia, Barcelona and for Spain. A massive name like David would really boost the clubs reputation and keep pushing them forcefully onwards and upwards.

Leandro Damião

On the other hand they could go for the big Brazilian, Leandro Damião. In comparison to David Villa Leandro has youth on his side as he is only 23 and has his whole career ahead of him. I know less about Leandro but they are both clearly different types of player as the Brazilian is a tall centre-forward. Spurs are obviously fond of the tall, strong striker as in the past they have had Crouch, Les Ferdinand and Adebayor etc.

In my opinion if I had to choose it would be a really tough decision to make however I think I would take a slight gamble on Damião as he can hold the ball up more then bring the likes of Bale, Lennon, Dembele and Dempsey into play.

However just for the sake of argument David Villa would most certainly find the net more times which is what they need.

Bacup & Rossendale Borough manager Brent Peters believes they should go for the Spaniard David Villa because he is a “good striker and comes at a good price”.

What do you think…………..?
