Managers Reaction: Absolutely Gutted For The Boys

Following Bacup Borough’s Cup Exit I Spoke to The Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters to whom had this to Say. ” Given Runcorn Towns current League Position We Were under No illusions Just How Difficult This Game Was Going To Be, Peters added ” we had a game plan which we hoped would nullify any threat from the opposition, but at the same time without taking anything away from our potential threat from where we could hurt the opposition, Peters added ” it was important we were resolute and concentrated throughout, it was equally important the boys worked hard through out and did stick fully to the game plan, this I can say the lads did do to almost perfection, Peters added ” the system we adopted is very regimented and does require every player to be committed and concentrated throughout, the fact we had a bunch of honest lads going into this game with no ego’s or hidden agendas, is what made the system work, ok cynics could say we lost the game, this we did but let me tell those cynics, it was fine margins, Peters pointed out ” there was nothing negative about our approach, spoiling tactics by stopping their threat yes but not negative, in fact just the opposite, we were positive, we scored two well taken goals by Johnathan Thompson and Ryan Alessandra, we were leading for long periods of the first half, Peters added ” the two goals we conceded right on half time really could have been avoided, the first goal we try to pinch when the ball was not there to be pinched resulting in giving away a free kick, then the second goal we invited the press by going home, Peters added ” the pleasing aspect was the character we did show, had we not have shown such character we could have capitulated in the second half, the fact we remained positive and did keep believing is how we got our just rewards by scoring an excellent equaliser, this followed by also hitting the cross bar in what I best describe as a pulsating cup tie by action in each penalty box. Peters went onto say “the bitter pill was from one minute we are striking at goal through Anthony Hall following an excellent positive run and delivery from Ashley Leather to a minute later picking the ball out of our net. Peters finished by saying ” I was absolutely gutted for the boys, what they collectively contributed in this game, they certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side, I was proud of each and every one of them against a good strong Runcorn side, if we can take this attitude and commitment into our League games we will soon be right back on track, the cup draws have not at all been kind to us this season having been drawn against four Premier League sides, three of those games being away and only losing to them all by the odd goal, Congleton being the exception in extra time after drawing 3-3 at full time “
