Managers Reaction: Fully Deserved That Point

Following the Atherton LR Draw I caught up with the Bacup Borough Manager Brent Peters to whom had this to say”

This proved to be a tough game for us, nothing that did not surprise me, Atherton came at us in determined mood, credit to them they were well up for this game which was proved by the work rate their boys contributed, they closed down well, they contested for every ball, sometimes quite physical but I do not have any issues with physicality, it is a man’s game, Peters added ” in the first half I felt we were second best in the midfield area, for one, we were too far off our men to stamp our authority, and for two, they seemed quicker, brighter and sharper, Peters added ” I am not one for making excuses for my players, I do say it as it is, however on this occasion given the work rate I witnessed these lads put in at Runcorn, the fact this game is a Tuesday, I can’t help but think some were still feeling the effects of an hard Saturday shift. Peter’s said “in the early part of the first half, more composure from Atherton in front of goal and we would have been in trouble has they certainly did get in behind us, this said our Ashley Leather going the other way was proving to be a real thorn in their side, he was positive, direct, and a real threat.

Peters went onto say ” The longer the game went on I always fancied us and not them to score, the fact they did score first, the manner in which we conceded such goal was really extremely bad decision making from my defender, with only one person having any chance of scoring, then I can’t for the life in me understand why the boy is in front of his marker, marking space, if he goes shoulder to shoulder and competes, he does not have such an easy opportunity, Peters added ” it was embarrassing to see ” we don’t score enough goals has it is, so to lose a goal like that, to then realise we need two goals to win the game, given the time on the clock it was worrying, however I must praise Anthony Hall, not only by his contribution at the top end of the pitch, but dropping back to do a job for the team at left back against their lively right winger, I was also pleased by the quality of ball out to Stuart Craig from our free kick from which he delivered a quality ball which Johnathan Thompson showed determination to get on the end of before directing the ball towards Adrian Bellamy, who once again proved what a good leader after doing well at the back, then having moved further forward, he comes up with the equaliser, Peters finished by saying ” Three points we set out for, however I always say that any team that puts in the work ethic throughout their team, will inevitably get something from the game, given how hard Atherton worked against us, given how hard our boys had to work to combat Atherton, then both teams fully deserved that point. “
