Bacup Borough v Widnes
The Brian Boys West View Stadium, KO 20:00
Manager Brent Peters Carlisle City Comments.
” A settled side and consistency is important in getting continuity, following last week’s impressive team performance I placed my faith in these boys in order to get consistency and continuity, to say I feel let down is an understatement, Peters commented ” I felt we had turned a corner with an all-around excellent midfield but in this game the midfield unit had most certainly let their standards drop, Peters said ” whilst I can’t fault their work rate and endeavour, but what is the point of working hard to get control of the football to keep cheaply giving the opposition the ball back, I can’t legislate for Tom Coulson to whom has been progressing very well in our previous games was not feeling well, he failed to bring this to my attention, not only prior to the game but at half time, the boy was then sick on the pitch in the second half, when he did bring this to our attention we had already used our three substitutes which meant he had to get through the game, credit it to him, he did get through it, Peters went onto say ” I was fuming by the manner we conceded our second goal, I had instructed the boys prior to the game not to rely upon playing off sides, it is a really dangerous game to play, when officials can’t get it right at the highest level, then they most certainly will not get it right at our level, to stand there with an arm raised claiming off side and not tracking runners is suicidal, Peters added ” that is not us being a bad side, that is certain individuals not having Bxxxacks to defend against their man, Peters then said ” conceding their third goal was game over for us, once again a goal we should never have conceded but given what I found out following that Tom Coulson was not feeling well and had been sick on the pitch does explain why he let his man progress a long way into the heart of our defence un opposed before finding the pass from which their striker finished, Peters said ” I can’t stress the importance enough that players need to be honest about their health, wellbeing and fitness and not try to be heroes, by trying to play and by doing so not being able to fully carry out their duties does create its own issues, I realise Tom is has honest as the day is long and it was a genuine attempt to play, but it was evident to me from the off he was nowhere near the bar he had set himself over the past few weeks.
Peters said ” following the introduction of Steve Cassidy, he put a new lease of life into us, he was excellent, with his positive play he lifted the rest of the team, he created several excellent opportunities for us but sadly the forwards failed to compliment his quality by failing to put the ball into the net, Peters added ” we are desperate for a natural finisher, the sooner I can get one in, then the better, however this is no excuse, the lads to whom opportunities did come to, should have finished, had they have done, we would have rescued this game, the fact we failed to capitalise has left us as usual saying, “if only if ” Goals change games, we had the chances but could not take them which is certainly a disappointment has was the goals we conceded “.
